When I had started to read one of the longest novels in the history of English Literature by Vikram Seth, little did I know that one day I’d get to see the story of Lata up and close.
None other than Mira Nair has fulfilled the dream of a visual version of A Suitable Boy in the form of series. The same has been released on BBC One on July 26, in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
However, we Indians will have to wait some more as the movie will release on Netflix, but a date hasn’t been set yet.
India residing fans will have to make do with the trailer which is a power-packed one with the cast embedded with some very legendary and some promising actors.
Set in the early post-independence era, A Suitable Boy is about breaking the set boundaries. About Lata who falls in love with a Muslim boy Kabir Durrani.
Maan Kapoor who is Lata’s sister’s brother in law who gives his heart to a prostitute Saeeda Bai, and Mahesh Kapoor who remains utterly disappointed with his son because of his actions. The setting, cast, and the entire aesthetic of the series by the trailer looks very promising and a must-watch.
With Ram Kapoor, Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, and Rasika Duggal in the movie, it sure looks like an interesting watch. The only hope I have is that I wish the series is as good as the book was.
