Mirzapur 2 Review: Bloodshed, Vengeance, ‘Game of Thrones’ and the end of an era, version 2.0 is rock solid

Mirzapur 2 review

I’m one of those people who started watching Mirzapur season 1 on Monday itself and boy was I hooked. I’ve had a similar experience with Game of Thrones wherein I only started watching the series when the last season was just about to be released.

Amazon Prime released Mirzapur 2, a day ahead of the scheduled release and viewers were definitely excited. Like many, even I ended up binge watching it and I did have my oh my gosh and wtf moments through the season.

I’ll make sure that there are as less spoilers as possible.

The new season has introduced several new characters, and the best part is, that even if that individual has a small part to play, does hold a prominent role in the way the storyline has been moulded.

If blood makes you throw up, I’m not sure how you managed to watch the first season, but even if you did, this one is even more gory, bloody and full of scenes that might make you want to puke. However, me being one of those people who off late have started loving this kind of stuff, I simply loved the amount of violence this season had.

It did remind me of Game of Thrones, more so, this season even had a hint of The House of Cards and at times Kaleen Bhaiya may remind you of Frank Underwood, and you’ll only be left impressed.

Munna Tripathi’s character has seen a significant amount of growth and you will end up seeing his emotional side as well during this season. However, his thirst for the Throne of Mirzapur has only grown manifold and his quest continues.

Guddu Pandit on the other hand is on the route to avenging his brother, wife and unborn child and is ready to go any distance to do so. You may feel annoyed at his lack of brains at times and you may miss Bablu Pandit in the new season, but it’s Golu Gupta who has filled in his shoes pretty well.

In fact, Golu Gupta has turned from a nice studious girl to a woman who not only can use her brains but is equally well equipped with firing guns as well.

Beena Tripathi is playing her own game of survival in the house of horrors and you’ll love how transformative her character has become.

Two characters who I truly loathed were JP Yadav and Satyanand Tripathi. You’ll hate at the kind of people they have been and if you’re wishing death on them, you’re not the only ones.

Sharad Shukla, who happens to be a new addition is a character that did play out really well and will also continue to play an essential part in the upcoming season as well.

Mirzapur 2 review

However, one person who does always take my breath away is Pankaj Tripathi, he was outstanding in Mirzapur 1 and he’s all the better in the second season. There is nothing, and I repeat, nothing that is to be flawed in his character, he’s played the part to the T and the makers should feel lucky to have gotten a protagonist who’s as talented as him.

I’ve seen the show getting some kind of backlash and boycott and some of these people even talking about how it’s similar to the first season.

Mirzapur 2 review

Well, I’d beg to differ, I think that the second season was very well played out, many new characters have been introduced which meant new storylines for the viewers. I would agree that in the first half, the plot line is slightly at a slower pace, but I guess the last 2-3 episodes do cover that up.

There’s violence, more so, there’s reason to that violence, there’s drama, in fact, Robin added a bit of comic relief as well, which the first season had desperately needed. There’s not a lot of romance, but no one’s looking for that after so much bloodshed.

Mirzapur 2 review

The series has been A-rated so no one should be complaining about the slangs and the sexual content part. If you’ve happily seen 10 seasons of Game of Thrones, there’s not even 5 percent of it here.

The political angle added to it created a new dimension which made it all the more interesting. All in all, I think Mirzapur 2 has been a winner. Sacred Games 2 may have been disappointing, but Mirzapur 2 does win hands down.

Mirzapur 2 review

As far as ratings are concerned, I’d definitely give it 4 stars, one star less for an initial slow-paced storyline, otherwise, this series will definitely be on top of the charts for a long time.
