When I began watching Raat Akeli hai, the initial half of the movie felt like Knives out. In fact, even the characters felt borrowed from the movie. While watching the trailer itself, I had mentioned about the Knives Out feel.
However, while the background may have been inspired by the movie, Raat Akeli Hai is a very Indianized version of Knives Out, and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Talking about the plot, in a nutshell, Raat Akeli Hai is a murder mystery and basically is a story of an influential man in Kanpur named Raghubir Singh who in his 60s is mysteriously killed on his wedding day. He had gotten married to a woman half his age, making her one of the first suspects. However, she’s not the only one but an entire web of family members who may be involved in the killing of Singh.
It is in Inspector Jatil Yadav’s hands to get to the bottom of this nasty pit and pick out the dirt. Who killed Raghubir is something I won’t be the one telling you, Netflix definitely will.
I must say that Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Jatil Yadav has once again proven with this performance of his that he’s here to stay and no six-pack abs can match his acting and screen presence.
Radhika Apte as Raghubir’s widow is as convincing as she gets. She’s played the part with such finesse that Netflix was right to say that she’s back with a bang. It’s difficult to flaw her performance.
You’ll get to see CID’s Inspector Abhijeet in a completely different Avatar, which is negative yet buyable. All the other cast members, despite having a smaller role, have displayed a splendid performance.
Throughout the movie, you’ll remain at the edge of the seat with several nail-biting twists. There’s very little to complain as far as the plotline and acting is concerned. The UP feel has also been very well blended in the movie, which is a plus.
All in all, if you still haven’t watched Raat Akeli Hai, you must watch it and enjoy a good thrilling murder mystery after very long.
